I suspect we pronounce it the same way. Or at least I pronounce them both the same. I think I was 20 years old before I realized that "pin" and "pen" are supposed to be pronounced differently. Or that "twenty" isn't necessarily pronounced "twinny".

when you say jiggity (or jiggetty) does it sound more or less like "jig'dy" where the ' stands for the schwa sound? I think I would pronounce it like that, in which case, any vowel will do for the spelling!

I think it's more of "i" as in "it" for me, although that seems familiar, too.
